Introdução: Pesquisa inserida no programa Homeopatia: Saúde e Qualidade de Vida da UNIRIO, onde, desde 1912, homeopatia faz parte do currículo de graduação em medicina. Em 1999, a disciplina tornou-se obrigatória no 5. período, além dedisciplinas optativas.

Este artigo discute a demanda pela regulamentação do "ato médico" no Brasil à luz do referencial teórico da Sociologia das profissões. Apresenta e analisa os principais argumentos trazidos pelas corporações ao debate político a partir de documentos oficiais e entrevistas dos principais atores, entendendo o processo como legítima busca de defesa das prerrogativas e privilégios corporativos. Reconhecendo que a disputa está relacionada à construção das identidades profissionais, defende a regulamentação das profissões da área da saúde respeitando-se suas competências e habilidades teóricas e práticas. Conclui enfatizando que o papel do Estado na regulamentação das profissões precisa considerar os interesses da sociedade diante da intensa divisão do trabalho ocorrida na área da saúde, respeitando-se as competências exclusivas da medicina e reconhecendo as das novas profissões da área, como fisioterapia, fonoaudiologia, psicologia e outras.
This article discusses the demand for the regulation of the "medical act" in Brazil considering the theoretical framework adopted by the sociology of the professions. It presents and analyzes the main arguments of the health corporations based in official documents and main actors' interviews. The process is understood as a legitimate action of defense of the prerogatives and corporate privileges. Recognizing that the dispute is related to the construction of the professional identities it defends that the regulation of the health professions must respect their competences and theoretical and practical abilities. It concludes emphasizing that the role of the State in the regulation of the professions must consider the interests of the society in face of the intense technical division of the work that happened in the health sector. This means to respect the exclusive competences of the medicine and recognize those of the new professions of the area, such as physiotherapy, phonoaudiology, psychology and others.

Resumo: Relata-se uma experiência universitária no programa de Extensão "Escola Cidadã" - parceria UNI-RIO/município de Queimados, objetivando0 formar uma rede interdisciplinar de apoio ao ensino fundamental. Sob a ótica da pesquisa qualitativa, enfoca atividades do grupo de alunos de Medicina, utilizamos: questionários de avaliação, respondidos pelos bolsistas em 1996; observação de campo, atas, plano de ação e relatórios de 1996 e 1997. O trabalho de Extensão: proporcionou aos alunos o conhecimento de uma realidade social que validou e interligou as diferentes disciplinas do currículo; permitiu a concretização e conhecimentos de cunho social e humanístico, mostrando a necessidade de uma formação social para o médico; possibilitou o trabalho interprofissional (Medicina, Biomedicina, Biologia, Enfermagem, Pedagogia, Música, Nutrição e Teatro), entrevendo a necessidade de busca de interdisciplinaridade. Ao fomentar "o estado de apetite científico" dos alunos, evidenciou que a prática de Extensão concretiza sua função articuladora entre Ensino e Pesquisa, mostrando ser indispensável a indissociabilidade das três funções universitárias para a formação de profissionais com visão participativa e crítica.
Summary: This article delas with the report of a college experience at the extension program "Escola Cidadã" - a partnership between UNI-RIO/Secretaria de Educação, Cultura e Desporto do município de Queimados (Department of Education, Culture and Soprts of the City of Queimados), aiming to build an interdisciplinary net as a support to primary schools. Analysing it under the optics of qualitative research, focusing on the activities of a group of Medical students, we have used questionnaires, answered by interns, in 1996, field observation, plans of action and reports from 1996 to 1997. The work of extension provided the students with knowledge about a social reality that legitimated and interwined the different disciplines of the course; allowed the concreting of social and humanistic knowledge; made possible an interprofessianl work (Medicine, Biomedicine, Biology, Nursing, Pedagogy, Music, Nutritionh and Drama), catching a glimpse of the need to search for interdisciplinarity; by stimulating the 'state of scientifical appetite' of the studentes, it was made evident that the practice of extension pronounces its function as the articulator between teaching and research, marking clear the indispensable indissolution of the three university functions for the formation of professionals with a critical, participative vision.
